Foothill Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Allen Berg is a graduate of Foothill High School’s Class of 1991 and an educator, coach, and advocate for students. Having grown up in the Foothill Farms community and attended Frontier Elementary, Foothill Junior High, and Foothill High School, Allen’s connection to Foothill runs deep.

During his time at Foothill, Allen excelled as a student-athlete, playing football under legendary Coach Frank Negri. His accomplishments on the field included All-CVC and Sacramento Bee All-Metro honors, as well as a selection to the Optimist All-Star Game.

Foothill also became an important part of the Berg family’s story. It was at Foothill where Allen met his wife, Sandy, who went on to teach at the school for many years. Their children, Andre and Alyssa, would later attend Foothill as well, creating a family legacy deeply connected to the school and its community.

After high school, Allen continued his football career at Sacramento State, where he earned All-American West Conference honors as a linebacker and served as team captain. His experiences at Foothill left such a lasting impression that, after earning his teaching credential, Allen returned to his alma mater in 1998 as a teacher and football coach.

Allen eventually became Foothill’s head football coach, succeeding Coach Negri, who had served as the school’s only head football coach up to that point. Under Allen’s leadership, Foothill Football enjoyed tremendous success, including numerous conference championships and helping many student-athletes continue their football careers at the collegiate level. Through coaching, Allen not only developed athletes, but also mentored young people and helped prepare them for success beyond the football field.

As an educator, Allen has taught a variety of subjects, including Math, Biology, Earth Science, and English. In 2014, he continued his teaching career at Lincoln High School, where he currently teaches Science and serves as the school’s Head Football Coach. Through both education and athletics, Allen continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

Allen is grateful for those mentors. His journey reflects the enduring influence of the Foothill community and his own commitment to paying that influence forward through education, athletics, mentorship, and service.

For his accomplishments as a Mustang student-athlete, his dedication to education and athletics, and the lasting impact he has made on generations of students, it is my privilege and honor to introduce and induct Allen Berg into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame   

Twyla Foster Fondersmith grew up in Foothill Farms and attended Frontier Elementary School, Woodridge Elementary School, Foothill Junior High School, and Foothill Senior High School. While at Foothill Junior High School, she played violin in the District Honor Orchestra, was on the honor roll, and participated in GAA. Twyla graduated from Foothill High School in 1977.

During her time at Foothill High School, Twyla was a member of the yearbook staff, played on the JV volleyball team, and received the Arts & Crafts Award for Advanced Crafts in Mr. Wilts’ class. Her years at Foothill helped create a lasting connection to the school and its alumni community.

Fifteen years ago, Twyla helped create the Foothill High School Multi-Year Reunion Facebook page and form the Multi-Year Reunion Committee. With the help of past and present committee members, including Pam Hall Hauschild, Chris Martin, Torey Ross Radford, Doug Rhodes, Kevin Boyajian, Ronna Chapman, Triva Iverson, Curt Anderson, Laurie Wagner-Berry, Chris Chiginsky, Peggy Khan, and Kip Bodwell, the committee has organized several reunions for Foothill alumni.

Among those events was last year’s multi-year reunion, which celebrated Foothill High School’s 60th Anniversary. Through these reunions, Twyla and the committee have helped bring generations of Foothill alumni together, reconnecting classmates and friends while celebrating the history and traditions of their alma mater.

In 2012, Twyla created the Foothill High School Memorial Books to honor alumni who have passed away, and she continues to maintain them today. The books include a dedicated page for each alumnus who has passed away and have been displayed at several individual class and multi-year reunions.

The memorial books were created to provide alumni with a meaningful opportunity to remember, reflect upon, and celebrate the lives of classmates, friends, and family members who are no longer with us. Through this ongoing effort, Twyla has helped preserve the history and spirit of the Foothill High School community while ensuring that those who came before are never forgotten.

For her dedication to Foothill High School, her commitment to bringing alumni together, and her lasting efforts to preserve the memories and history of the Foothill community, it is my privilege and honor to introduce and induct Twyla Foster Fondersmith into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame.

Ronald “Curt” Anderson is a proud graduate of Foothill High School’s Class of 1979 and a lifelong advocate for youth, athletics, and community service. From his years as a student-athlete to his continued service to Foothill High School and the surrounding community, Curt remains deeply committed to the school and community that helped shape his life.

During his time at Foothill, Curt excelled in both football and basketball. He played football under Coach Frank Negri and basketball under Coach John Hoaglund, both members of the Foothill High School Hall of Fame. As a senior, Curt helped lead the basketball team to a Delta League Championship, creating memories and friendships that have remained an important part of his life.

Curt’s commitment to his Foothill roots has continued for decades. Since 2020, he has served as a Varsity Softball coach, sharing his passion for athletics while mentoring and supporting

student-athletes. He regularly volunteers with Class Reunion Committees and Multi-Year

Reunions and remains active in fundraising efforts that support Foothill High School.

Beyond Foothill, Curt has dedicated countless years to supporting youth and youth programs throughout the community. His service has included PAL, Solano Family & Children’s Services, Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home, and WoodmenLife Youth Camp, where he served as Camp Co-Director for 23 years. His commitment to youth athletics has also included umpiring and refereeing softball, flag football, and basketball, beginning with Foothill Farms Little League Baseball in 1977.

Curt currently serves as a Campus Safety Monitor at Carriage Elementary School, continuing his dedication to creating a safe, supportive, and positive environment for young people. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Curt and his wife, Carol, a Highlands High School Class of 1980 graduate, reside in Foothill Farms. Together, they have two grown children and four grandchildren.

Curt remains humbled by his induction into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame, particularly as he joins fellow Foothill alumni Twyla Foster Fondersmith, Class of 1977, and Greg Riley, Class of 1980. He treasures the lifelong friendships that began during his time at Foothill and continues to give back to the school and community he proudly calls home.

For his lasting contributions to Foothill High School, his dedication to youth, athletics, and community service, and his unwavering Mustang spirit, it is my privilege and honor to introduce and induct Ronald “Curt” Anderson into the

Foothill High School Hall of Fame.

Colonel Gregory Reilly of the United States Army (Ret.), graduated from Foothill High

School in June 1980, where he was a four-year letterman in wrestling and a two-year letterman

in football. In 1979, he became the first wrestler in Foothill history to win a Section (Masters) championship and qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Wrestling Championships.

Following high school, Greg attended Sacramento City College, where he qualified for the state wrestling tournament in consecutive years and served as team captain in 1982. He continued his education at California State University, Sacramento, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in December 1984.

While at Sacramento State, Greg joined the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and was one of only three cadets selected for an active-duty commission. His 30-year career as an

armored cavalry officer included graduation from the U.S. Army Airborne School and U.S. Army Ranger School. During his service, he earned three master’s degrees and commanded units from the company to brigade level.

Greg graduated with honors from every professional military education program he attended, including the Naval War College. Greg’s deployments included service in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, as well as Bosnia, Kosovo, two years in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and a tour in Afghanistan. His service earned him numerous awards and decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and four Bronze Star Medals, two awarded for valor.

Greg currently serves as a Professor of Joint Military Operations at the Naval War College program at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He is the Deputy Dean and Department Chair of the Joint Military Operations Department.

He is also the author of the forthcoming book, Adaptive Warfare: Links Between Technology and Strategy, scheduled for release in May 2027.

Greg remains a dedicated supporter of the Sacramento City College and Foothill wrestling programs. He contributes financially and returns to speak with student-athletes, offering mentorship and motivation drawn from his experiences in athletics, education, and military

service.

Greg has been married to Lisa G. Nemeth for 43 years, and together they have two children, Eryne

and Gregory Jr.

For his accomplishments as a Mustang student-athlete, distinguished military career, dedication to education, and continued support of wrestling and student-athletes, it is my privilege and honor to introduce and induct Colonel Gregory Reilly into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame.
